When does the new year start? Legally, there is no possible confusion, it is the first of January at midnight past. But OK ! In our minds, in our bodies, don't we feel that the "back to school" is this date that makes us switch to a new year just as real as that of January 1? This is surely the case for schoolchildren, pupils and students, not forgetting our parliamentarians. Is this not also the case for their parents? Finally there are all those who have had the chance to be on vacation for all or part of this month of August and who also feel that a new year is beginning? What's left? A minority I guess. A minority who by the weight of all those who return are led to feel this August 31 as the last day of an annual cycle which has everything of the end of the year.
